Don’t Let Constipation Slow You Down
Constipation can leave you uncomfortable and bloated, drain you of energy, and even affect your health and weight-control efforts. To keep your progress running smoothly, adopt these six helpful tips.
Tip 1: Get enough dietary fiber
Dietary fiber is bulk-forming, helping to solidify and soften stools. For optimal digestive function, an intake of 25-30 grams fiber per day is recommended by health organizations. Daily fiber also helps keep you feeling full, promotes intestinal health, helps you manage cholesterol levels, and can even assist in managing healthy blood sugar levels, according to the National Fiber Council. If you aren’t accustomed to eating much fiber, then increasing fiber gradually is important to avoid gas and bloating. For help filling fiber gaps daily, try Isagenix FiberPro™ and Isagenix Oatmeal Berry SlimCakes®.
Tip 2: Drink plenty of water
The solution to colon pollution is dilution. It’s not necessary to drink as much as possible at one sitting, but drinking water throughout the day is important. This is the best practice for avoiding dehydration, which can easily cause constipation. The dietary fiber you consume needs water to keep it moving along the gastrointestinal tract—together they help keep your gastrointestinal tract clean and healthy!
Tip 3: Exercise
Whether you walk briskly, jog or run, it’s the movement of the activity that helps keep your gut in working order. Try to incorporate at least 10 minute bouts of exercise throughout the day. This can be as simple as a short walk around your office building, parking far from your destination so you have to walk more, use stairs not elevators and don’t forget to include some basic stretching each day after warming up your muscles!
Tip 4: Magnesium supplement
Constipation can oftentimes be helped by increasing this essential mineral. Magnesium is not only essential for proper heart and muscle function, but in appropriate amounts also helps relax intestinal muscles and draws water into the intestines to help soften stools. Magnesium is the main ingredient that helps put the “flush” in Isagenix IsaFlush!®. Dark-green, leafy vegetables are also great sources of magnesium.
Tip 5: Digestive Enzymes
Your body naturally produces digestive enzymes to facilitate the break-down and absorption of foods. But as we get older, our digestive abilities are often not what they once were sometimes leading to constipation. Supplementing with a quality source of digestive enzymes, such as Isagenix Multi-Enzyme Complex™, before meals can help improve overall digestion and help you avoid becoming backed up.
Tip 6: Talk to your doctor
If constipation persists, be sure let your doctor know. There are certain medical conditions such as diabetes, irritable bowel syndrome and hypothyroidism that can lead to constipation. In such cases, medical treatment may be appropriate.
